We're going to make a trifold brochure in Publisher with a timeline showing events that have happened on your birthday over time.
We're going to make a trifold brochure in Publisher with a timeline showing events that have happened on your birthday over time.
- Open Publisher.
- Select ‘Brochures’.
- Select any template—it doesn't matter which because we delete everything.
- Delete everything on both sides.
- Save your file to your (U:) drive folder with the filename, "Timeline."
- Draw a text box to side 1, panel 1, bottom; type ‘This Day in My Life’ and student name/teacher name, font size 36, any font, centered.
- Copy-paste text box to panel 3 and edit to say, ‘This Day in History’.
- Add color block to top of Panel 1, 3, and entire Panel 2.
- Add student picture to top of panel 1 with color block behind.
- Add picture of a historic event during student’s life to panel 3.
- Add collage of 3 pictures to Panel 2 (Mix diagonal and straight—be creative).
- Add thick timeline that bisects Page 2. Use shift key to keep line straight.
- Add a callout to Page 2 above the line. Size it so it fills about 1/2 of one panel .
- Copy-paste so there are two call-outs per panel above the timeline and two call-outs per panel below the timeline.
- Pull tail of each call-out so it touches timeline.
- Above the line, in the callout furthest to the left type the year you were born. In the callout furthest to the right type the year of your most recent birthday and your age now. In the four remaining callouts between these two fill in a "significant" with the year, your age and what happened.
- Using Fact Monster, find six historical events that happened on the date of your birthday.
- Below the timeline, type a historical event in each of the six callouts with the earliest event in the furthest left callout and the most recent event in the furthest right callout.
Making a Storybook in Publisher
Over the next few classes we will be making our own storybooks using Microsoft Publisher. Publisher is good for creating storybooks because you can add pictures to each page to illustrate your story. You can also use autoflow between your text boxes to automatically move from one page to the next in your story.
Over the next few classes we will be making our own storybooks using Microsoft Publisher. Publisher is good for creating storybooks because you can add pictures to each page to illustrate your story. You can also use autoflow between your text boxes to automatically move from one page to the next in your story.
- Go to the folder with your name on it on the (U:) drive.
- Open the file named Storybook. This will open a blank 8 page document in Microsoft Publisher.
- Page 1 is your cover. Skip this for now and go to page 2.
- Page 2 - 7 are your main story pages. Each page will have an empty text box on it that will autoflow to a text box on the next page as you write your story. When you are finished, you should have at least one paragraph and one picture on each page.
- Mrs. Springers class will start typing their mystery story in the text box on page 2. Use a size 12 font.
Mrs. Moore's class will use the Story Starter site to create a writing prompt for their story. Once you have your writing prompt, start typing your story in text box on page 2. Use a size 12 font. - After you have finished typing / writing your story, add one picture each to pages 2 - 7.
- Go back to page 1 to make your cover. Your cover needs to have:
- A title created using Word Art
- One picture
- Your name in a size 14 font text box. - Go to page 8 to make your back cover. On this page you will see a text box titled "About the Author." Type 1-2 paragraphs about yourself in this text box in a size 12 font.
- Add a picture to page 8 for the back cover.
- Remember to save your work often to make sure you don't lose it.
- Once you finish, you can print a copy for yourself. I will grade them from the file you save in your network folder.
