Keyboard Practice Site We are working regular keyboarding practice into our routine for all grade levels. With more technology being used in our classrooms, keyboarding speed is going to be an essential skill for students to complete their homework in a timely manner. Clicking on the logo below will bring you to the tutorial site we are using. Students can log in and practice there.
Second Quarter Keyboarding Second quarter we will have a weekly keyboarding assignment as homework. Each week (Saturday - following Friday) students are expected to practice keyboarding using the Typing.com courses for 15 minutes per week. Minutes above 15 each week will count as extra credit or to make up for weeks you did not complete the full 15-minute requirement. Students will only be able to earn up to 30 extra credit points per quarter, so the second quarter maximum is 120 points. This will need to be completed outside of class unless you are finished with the current in-class project. The weekly schedule will be as follows:
October 24 - 30: 15 minutes
October 31 - November 6: 15 minutes
November 7 - 13: 15 minutes
November 14 - 20: 15 minutes
November 21 - December 4: 15 minutes (two weeks because of Thanksgiving)
December 5 - 11: 15 minutes
December 12 - 18: Extra Credit / Make-up Week
We will also have two speed checks in class throughout the quarter. Speed checks will be on November 13 and December 11. You will be graded on the following 10-point scale based on your personal improvement. Improvement is based on net speed. Net speed is calculated by multiplying your gross speed by your accuracy percentage.
20% Improvement = 10 Points
10% Improvement = 9 Points
1 - 9% improvement = 8 points
No improvement = 7 points
Decrease in speed = 6 points
