Formatting a Document In Word

For the next few classes, we will work on formatting a document about Fall in Microsoft Word. Follow these steps. Mr. Longard will show you how to do them step-by-step.
- Open the "Formatting" file on your U: drive
- Use "Save As" to change the file name to Formatting followed by your last name.
- Fill in the heading.
- Move it to the right margin. Use the Right Alignment Icon, NOT the space bar or tab key.
- The red-highlighted phrase is your title. Center this phrase and change the style to Title. Remove the highlight when you have finished.
- Correct misspelled words using suggestions when you right click on the word. These words have a squiggly red line under it.
- Right click on the yellow-highlighted words to find a synonym. Remove the highlights when you are finished.
- The three green-highlight phrases in your document are your section headings. Change the style to Heading 1. Remove the highlights when you have finished.
- For the six blue-highlighted phrases, change the FONT, the SIZE, and the COLOR. You are free to pick whichever FONT, SIZE, and COLOR you like. They do not have to be the same. Remove the highlights when you have finished.
- Insert three clip art: 1 of corn maze, 1 of a haunted house, and 1 of a pumpkin patch. Change each clip art so that the text wraps around it and place in an appropriate spot for the story.
- When you are all finished, save your file to the "Turned In" folder on the U: drive.
Making a Table in Microsoft Word
- Open Microsoft Word.
- On the first line type your name.
- On the second line type your title: ‘5 Favorite Holidays’; use #22 font, caps lock, bold. Conter your title.
- Add a 3 (row) x 6 (column) table.
- Shade the first row so it stands out.
- In the first row add the column headings —‘Holiday’, ‘Date’, ‘Picture’.
- In column 1 list our five favorite Holidays with one in each row.
- In column 2 list the date for each holiday in the correct row.
- In column 3 insert a picture for each holiday in correct row. Remember to follow fair use rules in selecting your images.
- Remember to save you file to you folder on the U: drive. Use the filename, "favorite holidays."
